Cloak & Lipstick – Interview to producer Michael Wayne Brown

A few days ago, the Indiegogo platform launched a fundraising campaign for Cloak & Lipstick, a new project by Acting Legally productions. In this exclusive interview, producer Michael Wayne Brown talks to us in detail about the project, a romantic and sexy comedy that we invite you to support.

Welcome back to BMovieFilms, Mr. Brown. Today, we speak about a new project from Acting Legally Productions, Cloak & Lipstick. Can you speak in detail about this movie?

We’ve just finished pre-production of our new movie “Cloak & Lipstick” and are very excited to see it go into production.   The tag line for the movie – “A formula, a spy, and some lipstick – what a change!”  pretty much sums up the over all premise of the film (which has been copyrighted and filed with the WGA for protection).  The story revolves around a foreign spy who is sent to the US to seduce and steal a formula that permits the user to alter his/her DNA thereby making the person unidentifiable by biometric devices and/or other physical devices such as video, genetic testing, etc. and as such they can move in and out of foreign countries without being noticed.  While her country has the formula in its earliest version, the change only lasts a short time and they need the improved long-lasting version. When she arrives in the US, she uses the formula for herself (making her younger and looking somewhat different) to attract the scientist inventor.  She then stages a chance meeting, in an arcade where he loves to play the game “Cloak & Dagger.”  She begins to seduce him but slowly falls for him and begins to question her future in espionage.  What entails is a race against time to see if the US has stabilized the formula and whether she can, or should, steal it as both countries attempt to locate their agents and ensure the formula is secure.

For this movie, you started an Indiegogo campaign. Have you already thought of any particular actors for this project? If so, which ones?

Yes, for the main scientist, (tentatively Dr. Kaplan) is a “Kevin James from Hitch” type of character, and currently am considering several actors who, at this time, I would like to keep confidential.  As for the older version of the spy, I’m think of someone like a Bai Ling as the spy and for the younger version (after she takes the formula) a Christine Nguyen type (and yes, you’ll see a lot of both). Again currently in discussions so nothing to confirm as of yet.

If the Indiegogo crowdfunding is successful, as we hope, how soon will you start production for “Cloak & Lipstick”

The fall, with a release date in 2026.  We have most of the funding, but not enough to complete through post-production. My philosophy has always been – don’t start a project you don’t have complete funding to finish and always invest in the film so others know that I have a personal stake in the success of the project.  I’m also speaking to larger investors who will receive “points”/dividends from the success of the movie.

In case the campaign is not a success, do you have a plan B for the production of this project?

I’ve written the script to adapt to a fluctuating budget.  As such locations will be altered, and casting my need to be changed, BUT, the project will be completed.

On a different note, how are things going with other projects like “A Made Woman”?

That is still in pre-production as the script needs some revisions to address technology to make the story more plausible.  But we plan to move forward.  We will also be moving forward with our horror film “The Legend of Ice Heart” which is a sexy thriller based on an old Native American legend.

What would you like to say to our readers to get them to participate in the fundraiser on Indiegogo for “Cloak & Lipstick”?

To those who chose to back/financially support the film so far – THANK YOU. Please know that this is a professional movie that I believe will do well.  No, it won’t be on the Hallmark Channel (It’s not that kind of move, man – R rated probably), but will have a little bit for everyone, spy suspense, love story, comedy, sexy scenes and more.  Naturally, those who back the film at certain minimum levels will be able to obtain a free DVD, autographed photos of the cast and crew, and if they are around, they can be in the film as background or work as crew.  Naturally, all those who back/financially support will receive appropriate credit in the film.
